  • Description: Tureen and cover. Deep vertical sides, domed cover with narrow rim and flattened knob. Imari export colour scheme: underglaze blue and red, yellow, turquoise, green and aubergine enamels with gold. All-over design of peony and chrysanthemum growing from rocks. Rocks and much of foliage in underglaze blue. Above foot, feathery scroll design in turquoise and red. Double circles in underglaze blue around foot and top of tureen. Floral design repeated over most of cover.

    Presumably, there was originally a stand en suite. Such tureens come in a wide range of sizes, some with a diameter of nearly 40 cm, see Barry Davies, 1997 no. 112
