Museum Accession No.: EA1979.1 Catalogue No.: 8 Object type: Jar Kiln/Location: Blue-and-white, Arita Period/Date: 1659-80 Dimensions: H. 30.3 cm, D. 10.5 cm Provenance: Gift of Mr and Mrs David King in Memory of Gerald Reitlinger Description: Jar. Almost vertical sides, tall, slightly splayed foot. Short neck unglazed on inner rim. Underglaze blue decoration of lake scene with European style houses on stilts among pines. Two figures on bridge to pagoda, boats and junks in distance. Line encircles lower shoulder, border of lappets at upper shoulder. Border of gadroons at top. Three concentric circles round foot. Probably attributable to Chokichidani kiln. The shape is not of European origin. Exhibited: Similar Example: Illustrated:	Main View
