- Description: Five-lobed bowl. Gently curving sides, round base and high foot. Red, blue, green and black enamels. Two butterflies back-to-back in well, a similar single butterfly on each lobe on white ground.
This is a very rare pattern; for perhaps the only other published example, see Kassel, 1990, no. 218, which bears a Dresden number N=36 over a rectangle. The only other example known seems to be that from the Syz Collection, now in the Metropolitan Museum, New York. The shape and design were copied at Chantilly (see Le Duc, 1996, p. 108), where cups were made en suite. The pattern was copied on plates at Worcester (Marshall Collection, WA 1977.339, Ashmolean Museum) and at Chelsea, see Porcelain for Palaces, 1990, no. 334.
