  • Provenance: Purchased with the aid of the Friends Of the Ashmolean
  • Description: Plate. Pale underglaze blue decoration. Single line encircles cavetto just below the rim, which has a border of leaves and flowers in sketchy style on ground of pale blue combing. The well has a wreath of leaves surrounding the VOC monogram and the letter 'N', all somewhat crudely executed.

    The mark should probably be read: Nederlandse Vereenigde Oostidische Compagnie.
